We the community of Katharsis, believe that social transformation is only possible through individual transformation. We provide an experience, aimed at overcoming repressed emotions, social constraints and imposed morality. We strive for an overall society governed by emotionally reflected individuals with a greater understanding of themselves and others.

I. Confrontation

We believe, that the process of self-reflection can only be reached through confrontation. To work towards purification of the mind, we must confront our fears, instincts and emotions, rather than avoiding them.

II. Carthasis

Catharsis is the purification and purgation of emotions through exposure and confrontation, resulting in renewal. It is every visitors right to undergo this process, ultimately striving for social catharsis. Social Catharsis is reached through reciprocal stimulation of emotions and emotional communion.

Contamination is defined by the merging of two entities, one overtaking the other: spoiling, corrupting and changing its properties.

Even worse than these demonic transformations of the outer world, were the alterations that I perceived in myself, in my inner being. Every exertion of my will, every attempt to put an end to the disintegration of the outer world and the dissolution of my ego, seemed to be wasted effort. A demon had invaded me, had taken possession of my body, mind, and soul.

Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is. But if it is repressed and isolated from consciousness, it never gets corrected.

Catharsis

from Greek katharsis, is the purification and purgation of emotions through art, or any extreme change in emotion that results in renewal and restoration.

Man, I can assure you, Is a nasty creature.

One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman.

It is easy to see that the ego is that part of the id which has been modified by the direct influence of the external world. For the ego, perception plays the part which in the id falls to instinct. The ego represents what may be called reason and common sense, in contrast to the id, which contains the passions.

There remains nothing, in culture or in nature, which has not been transformed, and polluted, according to the means and interests of modern industry.

The heterotopia has the power to juxtapose in a single real place several spaces, several emplacements that are in themselves incompatible

Art was a union of the father and mother worlds, of mind and blood. It might start in utter sensuality and lead to total abstraction; then again it might originate in pure concept and end in bleeding flesh. Any work of art that was truly sublime, not just a good juggler's trick; that was filled with the eternal secret, like the master's madonna; every obviously genuine work of art had this dangerous, smiling double face, was male-female, a merging of instinct and pure spirituality.

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord,jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, thatthose who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

What desire can be contrary to nature since it was given to man by nature itself?

From these few observations we can already conclude that the real is never beautiful. Beauty is a value applicable only to the imaginary and which means the negation of the world in its essential structure.

According to Plato and Kant, any use of media at all serves to taint and corrupt the purity of intellectual ideas. Purity naturally seems to tend to extremes, as could be expected from an idea containing such an inherent binary opposition (mixed/unmixed, clean/soiled, etc.) Purity is an absolute; one cannot be mostly pure, or almost unmixed. Purity is an all-or-nothing proposition.

Architects can no longer afford to be intimidated by the puritanically moral language of orthodox Modern architecture. I like elements which are hybrid rather than "pure", compromising rather than "clean," distorted rather than "straightforward," ambiguous rather than "articulated," perverse as well as impersonal, boring as well as "interesting," conventional rather than "designed," accommodating rather than excluding, redundant rather than simple, vestigial as well as innovating, inconsistent and equivocal rather than direct and clear. I am for messy vitality over obvious unity. I include the non sequitur and proclaim the duality.

There is therefore a critique of language in the form of bricolage, and it has even been said that bricolage is critical language itself...If one calls brico- lage the necessity of borrowing one’s concepts from the text of a heritage which is more or less coherent or ruined, it must be said that every discourse is bricoleur.

Everything which we now call culture, education, and civilization must at some point appear before the unerring judge Dionysus.

Complete honesty has nothing to do with ‘purity’ or naivety. The full truth is unattainable to naivety, and the completely honest artist is not pure in heart.
